Western Province coach Allister Coetzee has wasted no time in leaning on his returning Springboks to steady the team's ship in the stormy Cape Town waters.

The Province coach, desperate to get his side back into the Currie Cup play-off race, said that they have already received the green light to include "all" of their fit Springboks in the team for the Round 10 showdown with the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The general consensus on Monday was that SARU and the Springbok management would be meeting with the provincial unions to identify which Springbok players that would be rested, and which ones would be released for Currie Cup duty with their provinces.

The decision on which players will be rested is expected on Wednesday.

Many of the national players will be in desperate need of rest, considering that a few Springboks such as Province centre Jean de Villiers and Cheetahs flank Juan Smith, played in everyone of the ten Test matches that South Africa have played thus far in 2008. Prior to the international season, the Bok players would also have been exposed to a gruelling stint in the Super 14, or in some cases with European-based clubs.

But WP media spokesman Gavin Lewis told rugby365.com that Province coach Allister Coetzee was "definitely looking at utilising the Springbok players on Saturday."

WP are currently desperate for log points in the Currie Cup, languishing in fifth position on the table. The union are also in real danger of missing out of the semifinals, and need to claw back a massive deficit to reach the fourth spot, which is currently occupied by the Lions, nine points ahead of WP.

In that context, it is clear to see why Province are so keen to field their Springboks as soon as possible.

Lewis said that as far as he was aware, the Springbok players have been released by the Springboks after completion of their mid-year international duties, and were once again under WP's jurisdiction.

"Allister will be looking to utilise the bulk of the returning Springboks for the upcoming matches, starting on Saturday against the Cheetahs," said Lewis.

"All the Springbok players are now back in their provincial folds.

"The Western Province medical team will first examine each one of our returning Bok players and make an assessment on each player in terms of fitness and conditioning.

"The coach will then take advice from our medical guys, and will be making his selections accordingly, taking each case into consideration," Lewis stated.

WP will travel to Bloemfontein to face defending Currie Cup champions the Free State Cheetahs at Vodacom Park on Saturday in what will be a must-win match for the coastal team.

In addition to the Springboks, flyhalf Peter Grant and wing Sireli Naqelevuki are also available for selection this week.

Western Province will announce their team on Wednesday.
