It was rather a case of an under performing Boland Cavaliers side than a poor one, coach Deon Davids said after his side's heavy 10-46 defeat against the Sharks in Durban over the weekend.

"We had our chances and can blame nobody else but ourselves for the poor result," Davids said.

"I was happy with the possession we had. We won 14 of our 18 line-outs and 14 of our 17 scrums.

"In the first half we shared territorial advantage with the Sharks and also had more possession.

"And in the second half we still had enough possession, but less territorial advantage," Davids said.

The Cavaliers take on high-riding Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday and Davids is expecting a tough contest from the home side.

"However, we will concentrate on our style of play this week instead of concentrating on our opponents too much," he said.

Davids admitted that some players had not performed to their best abilities and he would have a good look at players returning from injury before he announces his side.

Players that will have to undergo fitness tests this week are prop Janro van Niekerk, flyhalf Elgar Watts and lock Frikkie Spies.
