Habana in Stormers talks

World Cup-winning Springbok wing Bryan Habana will be in Cape Town on Monday for 'explorative talks' with Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus.
Habana, winner of both the International Rugby Board and South African Rugby Union Player of the Year awards for 2007, has a firm offer to stay with the Blue Bulls in Pretoria and had talks with the Bulls on Sunday.
We can also reveal that, apart from an offer from the Blue Bulls (Pty) Ltd, there are no other written offers on the table.
However, the Stormers coach, Erasmus, has made contact with Habana and they will have talks on Monday.
The 26-year-old try machine is currently "weighing up his options", despite recent reports that suggested French Top 14 outfit Bayonne was leading the chase for his signature.
Habana, who was one of the key players in South Africa's 2-1 victory in the series against the British and Irish Lions earlier this year as well as the 2-0 whitewash over the All Blacks this month, has been repeatedly linked with a switch to Europe.
However, Bernie Habana, Bryan's father, told this website that the "only written offer" they have is from the Bulls.
"We spoke to the Bulls today [Sunday]," Habana Snr said, confirming that he will fly with Bryan to Cape Town on Monday for talks with Erasmus and Western Province (Pty) Ltd MD Rob Wagner.
"There are no offers [from Western Province or the Stormers] yet," Habana Snr said about the trip to Cape Town, adding: "It is just explorative talks."
Erasmus made the initial approach, to determine if there is any interest from the Bok flyer, and they will take the matter one step further on Monday.
Habana Snr said the reason for the talks is to have something against which to compare the Bulls' offer.
"We must compare it with something local, because you can't compare it to overseas offers," Habana said, confirming that although there was an unsigned offer from Toulon and a verbal from another French club, there was nothing firm from France.
Toulouse and Perpignan are certainly not in the picture, but Habana Snr was not prepare to divulge if the 'verbal offer' was from Bayonne.
The Bulls recently said that Habana remains a "top priority" for them and they will vigorously pursue an extension of his contract with the Pretoria-based outfit in the face of renewed interest in the Springbok flyer.
The High Performance Manager of the Blue Bulls Ian Schwartz recently said that they are keen to retain Habana's services.
"We are determined to keep him in Pretoria, as he remains one of our top priorities," Schwartz told us.
WP, who last week lost out to the Bulls in the race to sign midfielder Wynand Olivier, have also recently lost the services of Springbok midfielder Jean de Villiers to Irish province Munster.
De Villiers was present at Munster's pre-season match against Guinness Premiership club Sale Sharks at Musgrave Park this weekend.
The Springbok centre was on a two-day tour of the Munster set-up before returning to the South Africa Tri-Nations squad.
And with WP and the Golden Lions currently in a tug-of-war over the services of another World Cup-winning midfielder, Jaque Fourie, it is not surprising that the Cape Town team is pursuing Habana so vigorously.
