According to reports, the Springboks have issued a request for Saturday's citing commisioner, Douglas Hunt, to investigate an alleged 'eye-gouging' by Ireland Jamie Heaslip on South African flank Heinrich Brussow.

Saturday's clash between the Springboks and Ireland at Croke Park was a fantastic encounter, with the home side just edging home 15-10, but could now be overshadowed by the allegation if it is found to be true.

The incident is believed to have taken place in the first half but there has been no indication yet whether the Springboks' request will be accepted by Hunt or if there is any evidence of the alleged act.

Eye-gouging is a very heated topic when it comes to these two teams following Schalk Burger's eight week ban for the same offence earlier this year.

The Stormer flank was found guilty of 'improper conduct' after making contact with the 'eye area' of Ireland wing Luke Fitzgerald in the second test of the British and Irish Lions series and had been the target for a lot of attention from the Irish media in the buildup to the test.
