Springbok speedster Tonderai Chavhanga will not be running out for the Stormers nor Western Province in 2010, after he agreed to a two-year deal with the Golden Lions ahead of next year's Super 14.

According to Chavhanga's agent Neil Minnaar, Western Province have not yet come forward with a new deal as the Bok wing's contract is due to expire at the end of October.

He also confirmed that the player has already penned the new deal which will see him play for the Jo' burg franchise in next year's Super 14.

"Tonderai is going to the Lions. He has signed a two-year contract," Minnaar told the Cape Times.

"I asked Western Province at the end of the Super 14 what Tondie's situation was as his contract ends on October 31. But nothing has been forthcoming.

"So I put his name out in the market and there was lots of interest all over the world. We only heard from WP recently.

"We met with [Stormers coach] Rassie Erasmus on September 8 and he said that there would be something from WP by September 14. But there has still been nothing. So Tondie decided to sign for the Lions."

Chavhanga didn't get much gametime during the Super 14 as Erasmus preferred Sireli Naqelevuki and Nick Koster on the wings.

And with Bok flyer Bryan Habana heading for the Cape, Chavhanga may get even less time on the park during next year's Super 14.

The Zimbabwean-born speedster's Springbok career has been curtailed by injuries but he has been in good form in the Currie Cup and Minnaar said the player still has Bok ambitions.

"Teams in France and the UK wanted to sign him, but I advised Tondie to rather stay in South Africa," he said.

"He definitely still wants to play Test rugby, so it would be better for him to play in South Africa.

"He is only 26. Maybe he can be part of a big turnaround at the Lions in 2010."
