Western Province coach Allister Coetzee has officially been named head coach of the Stormers for the 2010 Super 14, with Rassie Erasmus continuing as Senior Professional Coach.
The structure sees the successful WP management team utilised in the 2009 Currie Cup retained for the 2010 Super 14 season, with Robbie Fleck as backline Coach and Matthew Proudfoot as forwards Coach.
Erasmus continues to fulfill the role of a "hands on" Senior Professional Coach, responsible for team strategy, tactics and player recruitment. Focus will be long term and global, ensuring positive momentum, culture and structures are retained at all levels in WP. Erasmus will remain "hands on" from a senior team coaching viewpoint and remains responsible for team tactics and game plans.
"I think it [the Currie Cup management team] was a successful team and they have been tried and tested," Erasmus told this website.
"The way we worked in the Currie Cup is the same way we are going to work in the Super 14. In the Currie Cup all the management would get together and discuss our plans on a weekly basis and that's the way we do it for the Super 14.
"It allows you a lot more time and you can keep your creativity. There's no egos here and we don't care who gets the credit as long as the team does well."
Coetzee?s role will continue to be control of day-to-day playing issues and man-management and he will be responsible for daily training and preparation, with the approval of Erasmus.
"The way Allister managed the team with the day to day issues was really an eye-opener for me. We were also struggling a bit on attack last year and what Robbie brought to the team, was also an eye opener.
"What Matthew brought to the tight five and pack has been wonderful to see," Erasmus said.
The new structure used during the 2009 Currie Cup campaign, is based on the model successfully utilized in most Premiership football sides and has been approved by WP Rugby, Boland Rugby and the Stormers Governing Body.
Erasmus also indicated that he will be working closely with Boland, where former Lions boss Loffie Eloff recently appointed as Director of Rugby.
"Loffie has been appointed there and we've had a few good chats and we will be working very closely. If you look at the relationship the Cheetahs and Griffons had in the Currie Cup, that's what we would like to have with Boland next year. So that's a nice prospect for us.
