The committee tasked with the appointment of the two assistant coaches to Springbok coach Peter de Villiers, has made its decision, but the names of the two selected candidates will not be announced before they have been offered contracts by SA Rugby.

"I still have some paperwork to do," said Golden Lions president Jannie Ferreira, who is tasked with the appointment of the assistant coaches, on Wednesday.

However, the main reason could be that the successful candidates are contracted to unions and will have to negotiate their release with those unions before they can accept the position.

Three names are mentioned in the corridors as favourites to assist De Villiers, whose own contract has not been finalised since being appointed Springbok coach early in January.

Sharks coach Dick Muir looks certain to be the backline coach, while former Springbok prop and Griquas coach Dawie Theron's name is mentioned along with that of Gary Gold, assistant coach to the Stormers. Theron is also the Cheetahs assistant coach.

The appointment of Gold, in particular, could be problematical. He is contracted to Western Province and his contract with the union does not make provision for an exit clause, it is learnt.

Ferreira's committee, on which De Villiers has sitting, has been requested not to announce the names of the successful candidates before it has not been cleared with the respective unions.
