Benson Mhlongo remains adamant his career is not over after suffering a knee injury that will see him miss the remainder of the season.

There have also been reports that he might miss the World Cup, but he remains positive.

He told the club's website: "Obviously I am devastated with the news that I will be out of action for the entire season. There is absolutely nothing that I can do to change this situation...it is totally beyond my control.

"And as far as my international career is concerned. Look, I still harbor the ambition of representing my country in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. But whether that will happen or not...only time will tell, but I don't want to dwell on that for too long because my immediate focus is to fully recover and get back to playing again."

The Orlando Pirates captain sustained the injury during a league clash against AmaZulu. Mayanga remains upbeat saying he will not give up that easily.

"My injury occurred at a time when I was enjoying my football. I had ambitions to win something with the club this season and part of that dream will have to happen without me playing an active role in the field of play.

"I am not a quitter neither a failure...football is my passion and I will never give up on my dreams for as long as I live. But having said that, one needs to be cautious about the recovery process.

"I won't rush to get back into action just for the sake of it. The medical department will guide me as to when I can return to play again.

"Nevertheless, it's not over yet! My career is far from being over. I am a fighter, and I will bounce back.... I will undergo rehabilitation and I can only hope that all goes well."
