SuperSport United midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi came back to haunt his former club Kaizer Chiefs when his 23rd minute goal earned the Absa Premiership champions a deserved 1-0 win over Amakhosi in a hard fought league showdown played at Atteridgeville's Super Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was Nkosi first goal for his new club and could not have come at a better time for him and United.

It was the Premiership champions first win while Chiefs have only collected one point from their two league matches played so far.

But once again the Amakhosi fans showed poor judgment when they kept booing striker Kaizer Motaung junior who had another nightmare missing two sitters. But his dip in form is not helped by the impatient fans who have short memories from last season when Motaung junior's goals helped the club finish third.

SuperSport were on top in an entertaining opening half and deservedly changed over 1-0. The home side took the initiative form the kick-off against an Amakhosi battled to find their rhythm.

Glen Salmon again pressurised the Chiefs defence and shot wide from 20 metres in the sixth minute.

Four minutes later Chiefs goalmouth survived a scare when Anthony Laffor showed tremendous pace down the right flank cut into the byline but his cross to Salmons was somehow cleared in a goal mouth melee.

SuperSport's lively winger Daine Klate should have made it 1-0 in the 11th minute when he found himself in a one on one situation with Chiefs reserve keeper Thela Ngobeni who did well to deflect Klate's shot for a corner. Ngobeni, the South African under -20 goalkeeper replaced injured Bafana Bafana keeper Itumeleng Khune.

United kept up the pressure and Laffor had a shot turned away for a corner on 22 minutes.

But the pressure told a minute later when Nkosi brilliantly headed home a pin point cross after Ngobeni failed to cut out the winger's cross and Nkosi the former Amakhosi star made it 1-0 with a text booked headed goal.

It would be a goal that Bafana head coach Joel Santana would have enjoyed after recalling Nkosi to his squad for the friendly against Serbia at the same venue last Wednesday.A Although Nkosi did not play against the Serbs he impressed enough to be included in Santana's squad for next months friendly matches away to Germany and Ireland. His move to the PSL champions is starting to pay dividends for his club and his international career.

Six minutes later another goal bound Nkosi shot was deflected by Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende onto his post and a corner. Then came the first of Motaung junior's two glaring misses.

Motaung mishit a cross from Abia Nale in front of the United goal when it looked easier to score than miss. The Chiefs fans in the 10 000 crowd started booing the striker which did his confidence no good.

Then in the 58th minute Motaung junior skied a Tinashe Nengomasha cross over the United crossbar as Amakhosi started to hunt for the equaliser.

The off-form Motaung junior was replaced by Knowledge Musona in the 68th minute to the relief of the fans. But the boo boys are doing more harm to Motaung junior's confidence and they would do better to get off his back an Chiefs never looked like scoring and this must be a worry to coach Vladimir Vermezovic who has to bring back the confidence when Amakhosi face Ajax Cape Town in the MTN semifinal, second leg at Orlando Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs are 1-0 down after losing in the first leg in Newlands last weekend and Vermezovic has a mountain to climb before Sunday to get some confidnece and more commitment form his players.
