Jomo Cosmos will be extremely disappointed after dropping points in their Absa Premiership fixture against AmaZulu at the Rand Stadium on Saturday night.
The two teams at the bottom of the log played to 1-1 draw after goals from Ntokozo Sikhakhane and Sekou Camara on the night. Although 'Usuthu' were happy with just claiming a point away from home, Cosmos on the other hand will be furious.
The 'Ezenkosi' were the superior team for the majority of the 90 minutes, controlling the midfield and dictating play. Their problems, however, lay in their finishing as the squandered some golden opportunities in front of goal.
Cosmos should have found themselves in front in the 18th minute when a beautiful through ball saw Koena Mathopa beat the off-side trap. But after doing all the hard work Mathopa pushed his shot wide of the target to the disappointment of all the home fans inside the Rand Stadium.
Then against the run of play the 'Ezenkosi' went behind after a well worked corner-kick by AmaZulu in the 37th minute. Tsweu Mokoro whipped in a teasing cross and Ntokozo Sikhakhane was able to sneak in front of the Cosmos defence at the front post to expertly head the ball past a sprawling Zico Shiningayamwe, 1-0.
'Usuthu' now found themselves in the lead despite being on the back-foot for large parts of the half. In the second half neither side really took control of the game as the two teams at the bottom of the table looked to fumble through the remainder of the match.
Nevertheless, Cosmos most definitely should have equalised in the 65th minute when, after just coming on as a substitute, Sekou Camara fired over the cross bar from six yards out with an empty net a begging. A beautiful cross saw the keeper completely miss the ball which then fell to Camara, but he mad a complete hash of the opportunity.
Camara did, however, make up for his horrible error four minutes later when he did in fact find his side?s equaliser. A swift counter attack saw the ball quickly move forward to Camara, who this time made no mistake, with just the keeper to beat sliding the ball past him and into the back of the net, 1-1.
AmaZulu was the side that finished the stronger of the two teams, applying mountains of pressure on the Cosmos goal. 'Usuthu', nonetheless, could not find the killer blow that would win them the game which ended 1-1 and saw the sides share the points.
