Ajax Cape Town will look to bounce back from suffering their first away defeat in the Absa Premiership this season when they welcome Free State Stars to the Boland Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (kick-off 3.30pm).
Ajax suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Orlando Pirates on Saturday evening at Orlando Stadium, the same venue where they were defeated 6-0 by Golden Arrows in the final of the MTN8. The 'Urban Warriors' still lie in second place on the standings, but rather than breathing down the necks of leaders SuperSport United, as they were before the weekend’s league fixtures, they are now five points adrift of the Pretoria side. However, the Cape side will be confident of picking up three points and keeping up the pressure on 'Matsatsantsa', who face a tricky away match against Kaizer Chiefs. Stars come into this match on the back of two narrow home defeats, and will probably be glad to be on the road again as they are one of only two teams (the other being SuperSport) who have yet to suffer a defeat away from home. 'Ea Lla Koto' went down 1-0 to both Kaizer Chiefs and Free State rivals Bloemfontein Celtic in their last two games, and they lie in 13th place on the log with 15 points to their name. Ajax and Stars have met 13 times in the league since 1999/2000 and the Cape side has won just one game in comparison to 'Ea Lla Koto's seven victories. That lone win came in the first half of last season, but Stars claimed some revenge with a 3-0 victory in the return game in the Free State. When the teams met for their league game earlier this season, it ended all square at 1-1.
