A promising Absa Premiership clash is in store when Maritzburg United host Platinum Stars on Wednesday evening at the Woodburn Stadium in Pietermaritzburg (kick-off 7.30pm).

Both teams are coming into this game fresh off a win in their last league encounter and both will want to continue their rise up the league table following the weekend results.

Stars faced a tough task when they went up against Golden Arrows but were up for the challenge and walked away 2-1 winners on the day after going a goal down early on. Norikazu Murakami and Kagiso Senamela scored the 'Dinaledi' goals.

Maritzburg were luckier in their 1-0 win over AmaZulu after being reduced to ten men in the first half after Peter Peterson was shown a straight red card for a professional foul. But a single goal from Fadlu Davids in the 71st minute was enough to seal victory.

At present three places and four points separate these two teams on the league table. United are in 12th position on 18 points while Stars are in ninth position on 22 points.

When the two teams came face to face with one another earlier in the 2009/10 PSL season the 'Dinaledi' walked away victorious, winning the game 1-0.

Overall the two teams have only faced each other seven times in official league encounters. In that short history Stars have had the better of United defeating them five times. Maritzburg have only won a single match.
