It was the vistors whose intentions were clear from the start when striker Nathan Paulse disposessed Nhlanhla Kubeka and laid a seventh minute pass onto Ajax's Mfundo Shumana whose shot went wide with only goalkeeper Moneeb Josephs to beat.
Wits' glorious chance came in the 35th minute when Kubeka failed to score and instead balooned his shot over the bar.
The 'Urban Warriors' took the lead when Bryce Moon ran through the Wits defence in the 38th minute and slotted home an opener; giving former Ajax stopper Josephs no chance at all.
Kubeka, who had a magnificent game, almost levelled matters in the 42nd minute, but his shot went narrowly wide, whilst Wits' Noah Chivuta could only watch in disbelief on the stroke of half-time when his opportunity went over the bar.
A minute later, Chivuta made up for his earlier mistake and struck a beautiful corner-kick into the back of the net, leaving goalkeeper Hans Vonk stranded.
In the second half, it was Ajax who showed glimpses of brilliance, but the Wits defence did not succumb to the attempts by Russell Mwafulira and Paulse.
Moon almost scored a brace on the 52nd minute, but was denied by Josephs who saved for a corner.
The match ended in a stalemate after both teams had drawn their previous Castle Premiership encounters against Golden Arrows and Jomo Cosmos, respectively, last weekend.
