Wits got off to a flying start when they took the lead through a Noah Chivuta penalty in the fifth minute. Ajax however were back on level terms in the 11th minute when Russell Mwafulirwa was at the end of an excellent cross by Brett Evans.

The 'Clever Boys' found themselves a man down in the 21st minute when defender Wilson Shedzelani was sent-off after he contested a foul awarded to Ajax. Recent Bafana Bafana recruit Bryce Moon put Ajax ahead in the 25 minute when he converted Cale's cross from close-range.

Ajax could have gone further ahead in the 42nd minute when they were awarded a penalty when Nhlanhla Khubeka brought-down Evans in the box, but Mwafulirwa placed his shot wide of goal and Wits got a life-line.

Wits lost another player through descent closer to the end of the first half, this time it was Bienvenu Tipa and Ajax lead 2-1 into the break.

Chivuta almost equalised for Wits three minutes into the second half, when he took a quick free-kick that almost caught Vonk off-guard in the Ajax goals.

Meawhile, Ajax midfielder Mkhanyiseli Siwahla added to 'Clever Boys' woes when his cross was turned into the goals by Wits defender Neil Winstanley in the 51st minute.

Mwafulirwa beat Wits 'keeper Moeneeb Josephs from close-range to claim a brace, but was denied his hat-trick two minutes later for an infrengement on the Wits goal-minder.

Ajax' star-striker Thmebinkosi 'Tera' Fanteni got in on the action in the 81st minute, when he charged on Siwahla's blocked shot to put Ajax 5-1 ahead.

Young goalkeeper Morgan Cathey was given his first taste of PSL action, when he came on in place of veteran Hans Vonk and was almost chipped by Chivuta.

Wits did however did find a way past the youngster in the dying seconds of the match, when Pepe de Jesus chested the ball down to blast past Cathey, Ajax however had done enough to secure the win.
