We all knew it wouldn?t be long before the mighty Kaizer Chiefs found their form and started punishing sides in the Absa Premiership. Unfortunately for Ajax Cape Town it was them that felt the wrath of the Soweto giants, going down 3-0 at Newlands on Sunday afternoon.

The Amakhosi were by far the superior side on the day, dominating the midfield battle and controlling ball possession. The Urban Warriors were merely spectators as Chiefs ran rampant, scoring two goals in the first half and then concluding matters five minutes from time with their third goal.

In the early stages of the match Chiefs made good use of the width of the pitch, attacking down the flanks with some gusto, but their final ball was continuously poor and the players clearly looked to be frustrated with this.

However, everyone in the Amakhosi camp was put at ease when Kaizer Motaung Jr broke his goal scoring drought with the game?s opening goal in the 28th minute. The Chiefs striker showed some real first class finishing when he fired home a fantastic volley from just inside the 18 yard box; Hans Vonk in the Ajax goal stood no chance of saving it, 1-0.

Thereafter Chiefs continued to create chances on goal, but only managed to grab their second goal three minutes before the break. This time it was the turn of Thabang Rooi to delight the Amakhosi fans with a superb acrobatic over-head kick. Josta Dladla crossed the ball into the box and Rooi tried his luck from the left edge of the six yard box and watched in delight as the ball sailed past Vonk, 2-0.

The second half saw Ajax start with a bang but it was all short lived as Chiefs soon took control once more. The Urban Warriors did get a golden chance to pull a goal back when the referee awarded them a penalty in the 54th minute.

Arthur Bartman, however, further endeared himself to the Amakhosi faithful when he provided a fine save to deny Vilakazi from the spot-kick. It was clearly not to be Ajax?s day.

Chiefs, on the other hand, were fantastic and played some beautiful football. Nkosinathi Nhleko eventually put the result beyond doubt in the 85th minute when he scored his side?s third goal. It was a great counter attacking move well rounded off by Nhleko, 3-0.
