Things only got worse for AmaZulu on Wednesday night in the Absa Premiership as they continued on their downward spiral, losing 1-0 to Golden Arrows at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.

Neil Tovey will not know where to look after his side was clearly the better of the two on the night, but despite having the lion?s share of possession they simply could not find the back of the net. The loss sees Usuthu remain at the bottom of the league table.

AmaZulu definitely settled the quicker of the two teams in the first half and were the ones responsible for all the goal mouth action. Tovey?s men made their intentions clear as early as the seventh minute when Petros Zwane came close to scoring the game?s opening goal. Thulasizwe Khuzwayo, however, was on hand to deny the AmaZulu player with a great save, diving high to his right to tip the ball around the post for a corner-kick.

The Arrows keeper was called into action again two minutes later when he was forced to spread himself wide to deny Ayanda Dlamini in a one-on-one situation.

An just as things seemed to be going Usuthu?s way, tragedy struck in the in the 23rd minute when the referee adjudged Pere Ariweriyai to have pulled down Petros Zwane inside the 18 yard box and awarded Arrows a penalty. Richard Henyekane made no mistake from the spot to put his side in front against the run of play, 1-0.

Despite going behind, AmaZulu still pressed forward in attack and looked the better of the two sides for the majority of the first half and were unlucky not to draw level in the 24th minute. Again Khuzwayo was at his best diving full stretch to his left to block a 20 yard shot from Dlamini.

The second half saw Abafana Bes?thende come into the game a bit and they almost doubled their lead four minutes after the break. Koffi Tanoh pulled the best out of Nicolas Grinde, who did brilliantly to parry his 18 yard shot over the crossbar.

AmaZulu created chance after chance, but some woeful finishing saw them unable to draw level.

Neil Tovey?s men did, however, come close to salvaging a point three minutes from time when Myron Shongwe rose above the Arrows defence to head a right hand cross goal-wards. Unfortunately for Tovey and his men the header struck the cross bar and not the back of the net.

That is how the game ended as Tovey?s side suffered yet another defeat and remain at the bottom of the Absa Premiership.
