Former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey has called for Aaron Mokoena to be axed as skipper of the South African national team.

The AmaZulu boss feels that the Portsmouth defender doesn't warrant a place in South Africa's starting line-up.

He told Sunday World: "I don't believe that Mokoena should be in the starting eleven."

The former Chiefs stalwart feels that either Siyabonga Sangweni, Matthew Booth or Nasief Morris would be the right man to lead South Africa in the World Cup on home soil.

He continued: "He is a good fella but there is a need for a change of a captain. I think chaps like Morris, Sangweni and Booth could come up with something fresh."
