SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has insisted he has had no contact from Safa about becoming one of Carlos Alberto Parreira's assistants during the World Cup.

The man who led the Pretoria-based club to two successive titles has been tipped by many to join the Bafana Bafana set-up in the next couple of weeks before taking the top job after the World Cup. But Hunt, who was one of three assessors who delivered their verdict on the national team to Safa last week, denied that he had been approached.

"I've not had any contact since the last meeting," he said.

"I'm not lobbying for a job, that's for sure — they just have to pick the best candidate that is out there. I'm very happy where I am at the moment so I'm just going to keep working hard."

Hunt added: "A lot has been said in the press recently that has upset me, especially from the coaching establishment of Bafana. Statements have been made that I haven't liked, such as people saying that I have been trying to get the national team job. For has-been coaches to make statements like 'he thinks he knows everything now he has won the league' has been really upsetting for me."

With SuperSport already at the top of the PSL table, Hunt is aiming for a third successive title to match the feat achieved by Sundowns between 1997 and 2000. But despite their clear dominance, both Joel Santana and Parreira have been reluctant to call upon 'Matsatsantsa's players and Hunt believes he has the answer why.

"I understand why they aren't getting picked and it's because we play a totally different way of football to what the national side are trying to do," he admitted.

"We have always tried to use the width if the pitch and attack teams that way by getting crosses in. I don't think you can play football without width in your side.

As a result, they don't feel the players are good enough to fit into the system so we just have to accept that."
