Mpumalanga Black Aces have suspended their defender Lucas Tlhomelang after he tested positive for a banned substance.

Traces of a banned substance were found in his urine when the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport conducted random tests after the club's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Jomo Cosmos.

Aces Co-chairman Mario Morfou confirmed the news.

"We have met with Lucas about the incident and he's been suspended for an indefinite amount of time. He is very sorry and has agreed to go to rehab," he told the Daily Dispatch.

The South African Football Association (Safa) have given the player a chance to do another test and if he fails the second test he will face disciplinary action.

SAFA ringmaster Raymond Hack said: "We have informed both the player and his club about the results of the test. He has until tomorrow (September 24) to advise us on whether he will go for a B sample or not. We will bring him before the disciplinary committee should he fail to do so."
