SuperSport United showed no mercy to battling PSL rookies Mpumalanga Black Aces when they outplayed Aces 5-0 in a one-sided clash played at the Puma Stadium on Saturday.
SuperSport held the upper hand during the opening 45 minutes
where the home side failed to get one shot on target at the
champion's goal.
Daine Klate was a thorn in Aces side during the opening spell.
The flying winger sent a screamer over the Aces crossbar in the
17th minute. Then, three minutes later, Klate forced Aces
goalkeeper Thomas Richter to fist his shot over his crossbar.
The pressure continued and United were rewarded when Klate
crossed to Glen Salmon who beat Richter with a well-directed,
right-footed shot in the 30th minute to put the champions 1-0
ahead.
Richter was again called to make a save in the 45th minute this
time from a Jabu Maluleke rocket just before the half-time whistle.
United ran riot in the second half and overwhelmed the PSL
newcomers. United central defender Morgan Gould made it 2-0 in the
54th minute when he headed home a Maluleke corner.
Aces did test United keeper Emille Baron when he did well top
palm Noel Yobou's shot in the 62nd minute for a corner.
But two strikes within seven minutes from star player Klate
ended all Aces' resistance. Klate made it 3-0 in the 70th minute
and then seven minutes later added his second and his team's
fourth when he slammed home Thabo September's pass to make it 4-0.
Substitute Dario Monteiro added the icing on the cake when he
made it 5-0 in the final minute to earn United one of their easiest
win of the season.
