Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono believes that Kaizer Chiefs are the 'dark horses' in the race for PSL honours this season.

'Amakhosi' have enjoyed a resurgence of late, moving up to seventh in the standings after winning their last two league games following a poor start to the season.

The former Bafana Bafana boss is refusing to rule them out of the running for the championship and believes that the depth that exists within their squad could prove to be a telling factor come the end of the season.

He told Football365.co.za: "I think for now I would go for Chiefs. I think that a team that is consistent... will win.

"I think that Kaizer Chiefs are the dark horses to win the title this season because they have got depth, SuperSport is another one with depth, but the team that will win the PSL this season is the team that will pick up points even when they are not supposed to pick up points, but I fancy Kaizer Chiefs as a dark horse to win the title."

Sono, whose own side, Cosmos, currently lag at the bottom of the PSL standings, says he is not concerned by their start to the season as he expected to struggle this term after being promoted from the National First Division.

The 'Ezenkozi' boss feels that a realistic target for his charges is to avoid the drop this term.

He continued: "To be honest we were expecting it coming from the second division, we were expecting it.

"Our mission was just to survive this year because we have a lot of young players, who were playing in the second division.

"It's not going to be easy for us, but we will turn the luck around because we are playing good football and creating a lot of chances, our luck will turn and then we will defintely move away from the bottom of the table, not to fight for top eight, but to be safe that's all."

"That's all we want to do and then next season we can start competing cause there is no way that a player can give the excuse that he was nervous before the game.

"You can see it now when we play against some big name teams that my players get so nervous, it's unbelievable."
