Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono could be unveiled as the Bafana Bafana technical director within the next few days.
It is believed that the South African Football Association (SAFA) are set to offer the former Bafana boss the role as technical advisor.
Cosmos assistant coach Gerald Mtshali confirmed that Sono was in talks with SAFA today (Tuesday).
" He cannot be reached at the moment. He is in a meeting with SAFA at the moment," he told Football365.co.za.
Sono along with Barker and Gavin Hunt were asked to assess South Africa's last game, a 1-0 loss to Iceland, a role that SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani wanted the 'three wise men' to continue in, but it now seems Sono will take on the technical director job permanently.
It would not be the first time that the former Orlando Pirates star has served in such a role as he was technical adviser to head coach Clive Barker during the successful 1996 African Nations Cup campaign.
In 2002 Sono was appointed in the same role following a disappointing showing by Bafana during the African Nations Cup that year in Mali.
However, the 59-year-old ended up resigning after coach of the team at that time, Carlos Queiroz, felt that his position was being undermined by this appointment.
