Golden Arrows were unable to reproduce their MTN8 cup final form as they drew 0-0 with Ajax Cape Town at the Newlands Stadium on Sunday.

The draw was Arrows? ninth in 13 Absa Premiership encounters this season, although it did maintain their unbeaten record against Ajax in Cape Town, which has been going since 2004.

The Cape Town team made the more positive start and had the first real opportunity of the match when Diyo Sibisi?s 25-yard effort sailed just wide of the mark.

This was followed up with a Sameegh Doutie free kick, which was pushed over the bar by Helton Da Rocha, who also saved Sibisi?s effort from the resultant corner.

Abafana Bes?thende?s first shot on target only arrived midway through the first half, but Richard Henyekane?s shot was tamely struck straight at Hans Vonk.

As Arrows began to create more impetus in attack, midfielder Nhlanhla Zothwane had a couple of chances to put his side ahead, but picked out Vonk on both occasions, the second time from only 12-yards out, with the best opportunity of the half.

The advent of the second half saw the Cape Town team reasserting themselves on the game.

However, when they got into promising positions, Ajax seemed to run out of ideas, or on occasion, hesitate too long in front of goal, which saw both Sibisi and George Maluleka failing to capitalise on potential opportunities.

Doutie then had a 70th minute 20-yard shot saved by Da Rocha before Zothwane wasted Abafana Bes?thende?s first real chance of the second stanza when he failed to steer his header past Vonk after finding himself unmarked at a corner.

The final 20 minutes were action packed as both sides went for the win.

Ajax could however not muster any clear-cut chances, while Arrows? best opportunity fell to Joseph Musonda just a few minutes from time, but the Zambian was unable to find the target with a back post header.
