The Green Point Ratepayers’ Association has stated that it has no qualms about the choice of name for the city’s new 2010 stadium.

"Cape Town Stadium" was the name officially approved by the city council on Wednesday, following a two-week long public participation process.

Mayor Dan Plato told Eyewitness News it was pleased with the outcome.

“I think it says it all. Its very easy to understand and to digest – Cape Town Stadium in the City of Cape Town, South Africa.”

However, the local association said the choice of name was the least of the residents’ concerns.

The association’s James Loock maintains the stadium should never have been erected at the Green Point site to begin with.

“The main focus and concern of the ratepayers at this stage is the lease agreement with the operator of the stadium. We are extremely concerned about the financial viability," said Loock.
