Following their impressive run in the Confederations Cup, South Africa have moved up two places to position 70 in the latest Coca Cola/FIFA World rankings.

Bafana Bafana twice came close to causing an upset in the tournament, only to lose by a goal in both their matches against Brazil and Spain.

The Joel Santana led side managed to beat New Zealand and drew 0-0 with Iraq to book their place in the semifinals of the Confederations Cup where they lost 1-0 to eventual winners Brazil.

Meanwhile, Brazil have regained the top spot, thus relegating European champions Spain to second place.

Of the other countries that took part in the Confederations Cup, finalists the USA (12th, up 2) and Egypt (38th, up 2) and have also progressed up the ranking. World champions Italy retained their fourth position.

The disappointing performances by Iraq (94th, down 17) and New Zealand (100th, down 18) in the Confederations Cup caused them to lose ground.
