With the continuation of their sponsorship for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) traditional season-opener, the Telkom Chartiy Cup, Telkom has pledged that through this tournament they will uplift needy communities throughout the country.

Speaking at the launch of the tenth edition of this charity event hosted by Telkom, Dr. Leepile Taunyane, the Chairman of the Telkom Charity Trust, said: "Our goal is to harvest a crop that will benefit those who are needy. Now is the time to realize that purpose."

In last year's Telkom Charity Cup R3.6-million was raised and donated to 68 charities across South Africa. With that in mind, Telkom have set themselves a target of raising at least R5-million this time round.

However, that will only be possible if the fans come to the party and vote for their favourite team to take part. With every vote money is raised for needy communities.

The format for the charity event remains the unchanged. Supporters of the 16 PSL teams that are eligible for participation can vote, from the Thursday 2nd July, as many times as they please to ensure that their favourite club is among the top four teams when the voting lines close at midnight on Sunday, 26 July. You can also vote by sending a SMS with the teams name to 34620.

This event is viewed by the teams as a perfect season-opener which provides them with a great opportunity to test out their new signings and introduce them to the public.

"The Telkom Charity Cup has become a legacy event in which it unites all soccer loving football in the country. It is the fore-runner of things to come for the season," said PSL Executive member and Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung.

Meanwhile, the organisers of the Charity Cup have announced that this year's event will take place at Coca Cola Park.
