South Africa assistant coach Pitso Mosimane has lashed out at local coaches vying for the Bafana Bafana job.

The departure of Joel Santana last week saw a number of local bosses throw their name into the hat for the top job before SAFA announced late on Friday that Carlos Parreira would return to the position.

Gavin Hunt, Jomo Sono, Clive Barker and Gordon Igesund all expressed their desire to lead South Africa to the 2010 spectacle on home soil.

But Mosimane, who has served as an assistant to former South Africa coaches Ted Dumitru, Parreira and Santana as well as taking caretaker charge of the squad, has lambasted the local bosses who he feels just want the glory of taking Bafana to the World Cup without putting in the hard yards.

He told Sunday World: "I am disappointed by the integrity of certain coaches, who all of a sudden want to coach the national team as we count days before the biggest day in our soccer calender," he said.

"Some went a limb further by going to TV and radio stations to campaign for the post shortly after Santana's departure.

"Where were these people when Bafana went through pain during the qualifying rounds of the Confederations Cup?

"Nobody wants to go through that fire. They suddenly mushroom when the team is about to go to the World Cup."

The former Supersport United mentor said that he would be interested in the Bafana Bafana coaching job, but only after the 2010 showpiece following SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani's announcment that a local-born coach will be in charge of Bafana after the World Cup.

He continued: "I did not want to join the mad scramble for the post because I have respect for this country and the World Cup. I will only apply for the position of head coach after the 2010 event.

"I will be the first to submit my application letter. I hope SAFA stick to their continuity plan. There is no point in having people as assistants if they will be discarded at a later stage.

One local coach who does believe that former Bafana midfielder is ready for the role is Wits boss Roger De Sa, who says Mosimane is waiting in the wings.

"He's been there long enough. He has been in football long enough, he's played for the country, he is one of us and he has the game at heart," De Sa told Football365.co.za.
