"A signing a day" could aptly be Mamelodi Sundowns' new slogan after completing the transfer on Thursday from Bay United of tricky midfielder Gareth Ncaca.

In a bid to restore the club's reputation after two deflating, largely unproductive seasons, the five-times PSL champions had acquired the significant services of Ajax Cape Town striker Mabhudi Khenyeza. Golden Arrows midfielder Papi Zothwane and Orlando Pirates midfielder Lebohang Mokoena earlier in the week.

And Sundowns declared on the club's website they were "delighted to acquire the services of a player with thunderous free-kicks and an exciting style generally as his trademarks."

Ncaca has already appeared in a number of pre-season, friendly games for Sundowns and scored two goals - seemingly having impressed hard-to-please new coach Hristo Stoichkov in the process.

But the signing Sundowns might have coveted most has still to materialise - albeit the delay only being of a temporary nature.

All systems are marked go for Ajax Cape Town's dominant Brazilian centre-half, Eduardo Ferreira, to join the club who are nicknamed The Brazilians - but Ajax chairman John Comitis is insistent on only releasing his valued defender in January.

And while Sundowns have not given up hope of an immediate signing of Ferreira, an impasse remains over the timing of the transfer.
