Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic insists Itumeleng Khune is the first-choice goalkeeper at the club, despite the 22-year-old facing stiff competition from veteran shot-stopper Arthur Bartman.

The incumbent Bafana Bafana gloveman returned from a three month lay-off in Chiefs' emphatic 3-0 win over Bidvest Wits on Sunday.

And while Bartman has been a capable stand-in during Khune's absence, Vermezovic has made it clear who he favours to don the number one jersey.

"Itumeleng Khune is number one goalkeeper not only for the club but for the country as well. It is important that we prepare Khune and make sure that he is in good condition ahead of the World Cup. He has been working very hard at training while Arthur Bartman was doing well. We have five goalkeepers and all are fighting for the goalkeeper spot," the Serbian trainer said on Chiefs' official website.

He added: "We are hoping to take it one game at a time now. On Tuesday we are back at training in preparation for the tough game against AmaZulu. It is very difficult to analyze our opponents as they always double their efforts when they play us."
