Despite lifting the Currie Cup again, the Bulls do not dominate our 'Team of the Tournament'.
Santos and Wits draw
Article By:
Santos were unable to overcome a stubborn Wits side at the Coetzenburg Stadium on Wednesday night, having to settle for a 0-0
draw in an Absa Premiership clash.
The Cape side were on the offensive early on as Ryan Chapman had
a first minute effort from inside the box blocked and then Swazi
international Tony Tsabedze sent a 25-yard angled drive just wide
of goal.
Wits were however not just here to make up the numbers, and they
soon showed their potential in attack as Calvin Kadi struck a
well-hit shot from inside the box in the sixth minute, but it flew
straight at keeper Tshepo Motsoeneng.
Santos defender Bongi Macala then came close to an own goal with
an 11th minute header as the Students kept up the pressure.
More was to come as former Santos midfielder Marawaan Bantam
threatened with a free kick and then Calvin Kadi sent a header just
over the bar.
Having absorbed the pressure, Santos had chances of their own,
but
Chapman fired over the bar in the 28th minute, while Eleazar
Rodgers was off the mark with a header.
A Bantam free kick floated into the box in the 31st minute
looked set to break the deadlock when Timothy Batabaire attacked
the ball, but brave
keeping by Motsoeneng kept the Students off the score board.
With both defences holding form, the first opportunity of the
second stanza only came in the 68th minute when Mogogi Gabonamong's
header from Graham King's corner was well saved by Keet.
There were moments from both sides when it looked as if
something could be on up front, but ultimately neither attack could
create the extra bit of spark needed, resulting in the stalemate,
which in the end was a fair result.
