Santos and Ajax Cape Town will meet in what promises to be a mouth-watering Cape Town derby at Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off 8.15pm).
Santos's title ambitions have suffered somewhat in the last two matches, as they have picked up just one point out of a possible six. The Cape side were controversially beaten 1-0 by Kaizer Chiefs last weekend, and then they conceded a late equaliser in midweek in a 1-1 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic.
'The People's Team' are placed third on the log, with 28 points to their name from 17 matches. They are just one point behind Ajax, but a full eight adrift of leaders SuperSport United.
Ajax Cape Town have also picked up just one point from a possible six in their last two games. The 'Urban Warriors' were thumped 3-0 by Orlando Pirates last weekend and in midweek they were unable to find a way past Free State Stars’ defence, drawing 0-0 in Wellington.
Santos and Ajax have met 21 times in the top
flight league. The 'Urban Warriors' have won nine games to 'The People's Team's eight.
Ajax have a good record away to Santos, having won six of the 10 PSL matches in which the yellow-clad team has played host. Interestingly, the sides have never played to a draw in a league game hosted by Santos.
Earlier this season an own goal by Brett Evans and a header from Musa Otieno saw The People’s Team claim a 2-0 win over their Cape rivals in an Absa Premiership clash at Newlands Stadium.
