Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has admitted that he will leave his English side Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season — whether they get relegated or not.

Mokoena's contract expires at the end of the season and he hopes to impress scouts during the Confederations Cup in June. He is already considering options from English and European clubs who have shown an interest in him.

"I am definitely leaving Blackburn. I always want to play but I cannot change the coach's decision. It has been very frustrating because I could have left in January, but they asked me to stay," Mokoena told The Times.

He added that there were clubs who wanted to take him on loan until the end of the season, but he chose to stay after talking to the club's management.

"I want a club where I can get enough game time. I am 28 and need to play on a regular basis," explained Mokoena.

Mokoena also revealed that Bafana team-mate Benni McCarthy might also leave the club if they are relegated, even though he has another 18 months on his contract.

" Benni and I are in the same boat," said Mokoena. "We are very close and talk a lot about Bafana and about general issues back in SA. We have known each other since our days in Holland at Ajax Amsterdam."

Mokoena dismissed talk of returning to South Africa, even though some of his countrymen have flocked back in numbers just to be in the picture for the Confederations Cup and the World Cup.

"It is still early for me to come back home and play in the PSL. I have been in Europe for 11 years and have acclimatised to the demands. But I am planning to come back and give back to the country that has made me the player I am today. For now, I am going to stick around until I am 33 or 34," concluded Mokoena.
