Bafana Bafana star and Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has reportedly snubbed his English club's initial offer of a new contract.

According to Sky Sports, Pienaar, who still has two years left in his contract with Everton, has impressed hugely for David Moyes' side since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2007.

Now Everton are keen to tie down the former Ajax Amsterdam's star to a long-term deal, however, Everton's opening offer to the 27-year-old has been shunned by Pienaar and his representatives.

News of Pienaar's decision to shun a new deal has alerted a number of clubs, including Atletico Madrid, although talks are continuing between the player and Everton.
