Bafana Bafana and Everton star Steven Pienaar is being sued for #850 000 by his ex-girlfriend, and mother of his year-old daughter, for breaking up with her earlier this year.

According to the The Mirror, Pienaar faces a court battle with former girlfriend Danielle Steeneveld because she says the South African international promised to marry her after they met two years ago.

Steeneveld claims he took away her contraception so she'd get pregnant and that her reputation has been tarnished as she is an unmarried mother and "emotionally traumatised".

In papers filed at the High Court in Johannesburg, Steeneveld says Pienaar asked her to marry him and gave her a ring on her 21st birthday.

She quit her job in the city and followed the midfielder to Germany, where he played for Borussia Dortmund. But just months into their relationship she claims he was cheating on her, though he had insisted the affairs were over.

Steeneveld said Pienaar told her he "wanted a South African wife as mother of his children as his roots to his country are strong".

Steeneveld alleges Pienaar then "wilfully and intentionally" confiscated her contraceptives and contacted her daily, sending money to cover her medical expenses when she fell pregnant and returned to South Africa for family support.

Pienaar attended the birth and Steeneveld claims Everton sent a letter to immigration authorities confirming he had invited her to stay when she came back with the baby for a visit last October.

He allegedly then went to South Africa to propose formally but later ended the relationship "without cause".
