Kaizer Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe is ready to do whatever it takes to beat Orlando Pirates for the fans.

The Zimbabwe star will be participating in his second Soweto Derby since joining the Naturena-based club.

Sweswe recalls watching this massive fixture as a youngster back in his homeland and understands exactly what this match means to everyone involved with the club.

Sweswe told Backpagepix: "I used to watch derby matches on television in Zimbabwe and was fortunate enough to play in the last one, which I thoroughly enjoyed as the atmosphere was fantastic and the game was very exciting and fast paced.

"Since I joined Chiefs I have got a better understanding of just how important winning this game is to the fans. That is what we want to do on Saturday: win this match."

A victory on Saturday afternoon will not only hand Chiefs the Soweto bragging rights, but Sweswe is of the thinking that a three-point haul could also propel them towards a second-placed finish and qualification for Africa's premier club competition.

He added: "With Sundowns dropping points in front of us there is an opportunity for us to still finish the season in second place.

"If we manage to beat Pirates, Free State Stars and hold on for the remainder of the game that still has to be replayed against Aces we can achieve a second place finish and qualify for the African Champions League."
