There will be a lot on the line when Bloemfontein Celtic host Orlando Pirates in their last Absa Premiership match of the 2009/10 PSL season at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3.30pm).
At present only one place and two points separate these two sides on the league table. Celtic are in sixth place on 41 points while the 'Buccaneers' are in fifth spot on 43 points.
A win for the 'Phunya Sele Sele' would see them leap frog Pirates into fifth spot which is a long way off their 14th place finish last season.
"Playing a big club provides its own motivation for the players and we are looking to finish the league season on a high," Celtic coach Owen da Gama told the club's official website.
He added: "Pirates are a very dangerous side and on their day, if they get it right, they have shown they can beat anyone. They also have one of the best defensive outfits in the league.
"We will have the advantage of home ground and that always makes a difference."
The 'Buccaneers', on the other hand, will look to consolidate their place on the league table and possibly move up to fourth spot with a win, if Santos manage to lose or draw their last match of the season.
Both sides will be desperate to win their last league match as they are both coming into this game off the back of a 0-0 draw. Celtic were held to a 0-0 draw by Aces while Pirates shared the points with Kaizer Chiefs.
Ironically, this match between Celtic and Pirates will serve as a precursor for the first round of the Telkom Knockout the following weekend as they were also drawn to face each other.
When these two sides met earlier in the 2009/10 league season the Buccaneers were convincing winners as the game ended 3-1 in their favour. Katlego Mashego was the danger man on the day as he grabbed a brace.
Overall these two sides have met in 43 official league matches since 1985. Of those meetings Pirates have won the majority of games, running out winners 25 times. Celtic have only beaten the 'Buccaneers' eight times in the league.
