Platinum Stars' Lefa Mogaila on the run. Backpage
Stars to shine again?
Fri, 25 Sep 2009 12:00
Platinum Stars will try to end their two game losing streak when they take on Santos in an Absa Premiership clash at the Coetzenburg Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3.30pm).
The 'Tycoons' have slumped to 13th on the league table, currently on six points, after losing their last two matches. Most recently they went down 1-0 to Orlando Pirates in their last league match. Prior to that Stars also suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chiefs and are desperate to find some form.
Santos are also looking to get back to winning ways after drawing their last two league matches. Most recently they played to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows. 'The People's Team' are currently seventh on the log on nine points.
"The signs are good as we go into the Stars match as we finished the Arrows game on a positive note, attacking a lot," Santos coach Boebie Solomons told his club's official website.
"I think that is a good sign ? I hope we can continue with this winning mentality," he added.
There is not too much match history between these two sides, having only faced each other a total of 12 times in official league matches since the 2003/04 Absa Premiership season. Of those matches Santos have won four and Stars six.
In those twelve previous league matches, 32 goals have been scored. Stars have netted 19 of those goals and Santos have scored on 13 occasions.
In the corresponding fixture last season the two teams played to a 1-1 draw. The reverse fixture saw a couple more goals being scored as the 'Tycoons' thumped Santos by four goals to one.
