Santos midfielder Tyren Arendse praised his coach Boebie Solomons for his side's early season fortunes that has seen them among the PSL title chasers after 10 rounds of matches.

On Saturday, Santos also earned a distinction of being the first team to beat Orlando Pirates in this campaign, an event that led to the "Buccaneers" relinquishing their stance at the top of the league table for the first time since the season started.

Santos have now won five matches, drawn three and lost two from their 10 matches.

"The team worked hard to get that result against Pirates," Arendse told Football365.co.za soon after his arrival in Cape Town.

"Since the start of the season he has had us working hard on our defensive abilities, and it's begin to pay off."

Solomons, the club's former technical director, took over the reigns shortly before the season started after previous coach, David Bright's resignation.

This spell is one of Solomon's many with the side and has the distinction of leading them to two Cup titles ? the 2002 BP Top Eight and the 2003 Absa Cup.

He was the team's assistant coach when they won the 2001 Bob Save Super Bowl and the 2002 Premiership titles.

"Boebie has been with us for some time now, and was with us as well last season so he knows what each player is capable of which makes our job more easier," he concluded.
