Mamelodi Sundowns have revealed that the club urged the PSL not to legally challenge the new SAFA presidency during the league's Board of Governors meeting on Saturday.
Kirsten Nematandani was elected unopposed into the Safa hotseat after Danny Jordaan and Irvin Khoza withdrew their candidacy during an AGM meeting in September.
The duo were tired of fielding questions of ineligibility, but after pulling out of the race, Judge Ralph Zulman had ruled that the election should be postponed.
Despite this, Nematandani was named as the association's new president and the PSL are keen to seek legal recourse on the matter.
Sundowns believe that questioning the legitimacy of the elections will cast the country in a bad light ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
The 'Brazilians' released an official statement on their website, which read: 'It is essential that we do not initiate steps which may create a perception of instability and uncertainty in the leadership of Safa and football in South Africa. Sundowns therefore proposed that the PSL should desist from legally challenging the outcome of the Safa Office Bearers elections.
'Sundowns also proposed that the PSL should publicly announce its support for the new Safa leadership and work together with them for the development of football in South Africa and the hosting of a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup.
'The proposal of Sundowns was not accepted.
'As a member of the PSL and its Board of Governors, we respect the decision of the Board of Governors.
'We, however, continue to believe that, particularly during this important period of our football history, we should all work together and put the interest of football and South Africa above whatever differences which may exist.'
Safa meanwhile, have laughed off the questions surrounding the elections and the body's vice president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana stated: "We reiterate that the new Safa Leadership under Kirsten Nematandani is a product of the properly constituted AGM of Safa and as such, is legitimate ? in fact, it enjoys the support of the majority of the members of Safa, the people of South Africa, as well as the leadership of CAF and FIFA."
