SuperSport United Chairman Khulu Sibiya has warned 'Matsatsantsa' coach Gavin Hunt that he is keeping a close eye on his involvement with Bafana Bafana.

Sibiya has threatened to intervene should the former Moroka Swallows boss become too involved with the national set-up.

Hunt along with Jomo Sono and Clive Barker were chosen by the South African Football Association (SAFA) to evaluate Bafana's last game, a 1-0 loss to Iceland, an appointment which upset the United chairman.

He told BusinessDay: "The minute I get the feeling that this other job with SAFA is starting to become a distraction, I will step in.

"Do not forget that we were completely taken by surprise when SAFA came up with this idea of appointing Gavin as one of their three Bafana Bafana assessors in the first place.

"And I was not happy because they did not even consult us first before making the appointments public to the media."

Despite the departure of Joel Santana as Bafana Bafana mentor, SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani is determined to keep the three assessors on in the same role, but it has since emerged that Hunt is one of the front-runners to take over as coach of the national team from the Brazilian.

However, Sibiya is adamant not to let history repeat itself after SAFA had acted in a similar manner when they approached Pitso Mosimane in 2006.

He continued: "We have been down this road before and the situation with Pitso was a serious burden to this club. That is why I want certain things to be clearly pointed out to me this time so that I know what is going on.

"At least Gavin told me a few days ago that SuperSport were his first priority, and that was reassuring."
