Gavin Hunt admitted he was not very pleased with SuperSport United's 3-2 win over Maritzburg at Loftus on Saturday night.
Matsatsantsa looked comfortable for much of the encounter, but conceded two goals that put them under pressure in the closing stages.
The 2009 Coach of the Year sounded a warning to his players ahead of their next game against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.
"The two goals we conceded against Maritzburg were all from break away balls so we have to sort that out before our game against Chiefs," he said.
"I will obviously be happy if we keep scoring more than the opposition, that's okay, but for me this thing of conceding goals once we have scored is a problem. We must sort it out, but not to say I'm worried specifically about the defence... I'm worried about the whole team.
"It is a worry that we concede soft goals as we tend to relax and I'm not happy because I know we can play better than this. We must stop doing things we can't do with the ball and stick to the basics.
"I'm frustrated! But at least we have now avoided relegation with 33 points," he joked.
Hunt's counterpart, Ernst Middendorp, who took charge of his first game at the Maritzburg helm, revealed his players lacked confidence.
"I don't think they believed in themselves enough that they could win the game and I don't think they really knew what to do on the field," he said.
"If you really want to be successful, you must really believe in yourself, but I can't say the same about my players. Unfortunately we made mistakes and paid the price for it. We let them score two soft goals and that killed us, but we also learnt some lessons from today's game and I hope that in our next game my players will have the confidence you need to win matches."
'Matsatsantsa' have extended their lead at the top of the table to five points after second-placed Ajax Cape Town lost 3-0 to Orlando Pirates.
