Santos to bounce back
Tue, 03 Mar 2009 12:00
A wounded Santos side will host struggling Thanda Royal Zulu in an Absa Premiership match at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday evening (kick-off 8pm).
'The People's Team' suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at the weekend, conceding a goal in injury time to Surprise Moriri.
'Amabhubesi', on the other hand, scored an important victory in their quest to avoid relegation, beating bottom-of-the-log Bay United 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bongani Mbhele.
Santos are placed 10th on the log on 31 points, with Thanda in 13th, five points behind their Cape Town opponents.
The teams have met on five previous occasions in top flight football. Both Santos and Thanda have won two games, with one ending in a draw.
Earlier this season, the Peoples? Team claimed a 1-0 victory in KwaZulu-Natal thanks to a goal from Graham King.
The corresponding fixture from last term saw 'Amabhubesi' claim a surprise 2-0 win in Cape Town. The return game ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning Thanda took four points off Santos in 2007/08.
In games that Santos have hosted against Thanda, they have won one and lost one.
