New Thanda Royal Zulu coach Mlungisi 'Professor' Ngubane will lead the team for the first time when the struggling 'Amabhubesi' host Mamelodi Sundowns at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
Ngubane was appointed as Thanda’s new coach last week after Roger Palmgren was relieved of his duties following a string of poor results that resulted in the team to moving down to 15th position in the Absa Premiership standings.
"We feel we needed a new face to turn things around for us. We have a great team and we need someone to come in and lift the spirits and we believe that Prof Ngubane is the right man to do that for us," Thanda Chairman Johan Glennmo told the club's official website.
He added: "We thank Roger for all the hard work he put in as our head coach. He has laid a good foundation for us going forward.
"Roger will now focus on taking our youth development to the next level which is a very important part of our clubs
strategy and vision going forward."
Ngubane is no stranger to coaching struggling teams. He has often been called on to save teams from relegation and has succeeded many times, only to be relieved of his duties once the team is safe.
Ngubane has previously coached Durban Bush Bucks, Maritzburg United, Bush Bucks, Black Leopards and National First Division team Nathi Lions, as well as the Namibian national team.
