Whilst all eyes will be on the dynamic Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Surprise Moriri and Godfrey Sapula to lead the 'Brazilians' charge in tomorrow's Telkom Knockout Final, they also have some other versatile wildcards up their sleeves.
For one, Sundowns coach Gordon Igesund could call upon Manqoba 'Shakes' Ngwenya to spark a surprise on the unsuspecting Chiefs.
The versatile midfield-cum-striker has not seen much game time of late, but he could pose a threat should he make an appearance against the 'Amakhosi' on Saturday.
Ngwenya is equally at home attacking either from deep or just behind the strikers, but he can also be utilised as an out-and-out striker where his imposing physique and lethal left make him a handful up front.
Meanwhile, Lerato Chabangu has announced himself as a Bafana Bafana star of the future, after netting four goals in the Telkom KO this season.
He scored a brace to steer Sundowns to an explosive 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows, before scoring another double - from the central striking role - in the quarter-finals as the 'Brazilians' smashed Thanda Royal Zulu 3-1.
Whilst his versatility is an obvious string to his bow, some players tend to see it as something of a negative - although the talented SA Under-23 ace is happy to play anywhere... anytime.
"The game has evolved," Chabangu told the official 'Downs website this week. "[And] as a player you need to be versatile. You need to be able to perform when the coach instructs you to play a certain role and not be stereo-typed and claim to be able to play only one particular position.
"I will not say I am comfortable playing in this or that position. For me, anywhere the coach deploys me, suits me just fine.
"I will do everything in my power to ensure that wherever I am deployed, I should perform to the best of my abilities," vowed the Bafana international.
Got something to say?
