Telkom Knockout finalists Ajax Cape Town are unhappy over the three venues put on the table by the cup committee for the showpiece against Orlando Pirates on December 13.
Ajax said the three venues, Orlando Stadium, Atteridgeville's Super Stadium and Rustenburg's Olympia Park suggested by the committee, are not acceptable to the 'Urban Warriors'.
Explained Ajax spokesman, Thabiso "Shooz" Mekuto: "Had the cup committee decided at the start of the tournament that the final would be played at Orlando Stadium or any other stadium, we would have had no complaints. But we believe we would be at a big disadvantage playing at any of the three venues nominated by the cup committee.
"I can understand why they are looking at Orlando Stadium as it has been recently re-opened, and there is a lot of buzz around it at present. But we have to think of our fans and players and believe Bloemfontein would have been the best option."
Mekuto said they had a bad experience in 2006 when they were beaten in the Knockout final by Platinum Stars when they played at the Super Stadium.
Said the 'Urban Warriors' spokesman: "We had 18 busses that left Cape Town full of supporters for the final. Only one arrived before the kick-off. Also we had a serious accident after our semi-final against Free State Stars last weekend where one fan was killed and 20 injured when the bus crashed in Knysna. We want to avoid that and make sure our fans are safe. We intend bringing 18 busses full of supporters to this final."
He also said that playing in Gauteng or the North West favours Pirates. "Pirates will not have to do any travelling like our players will have to go through. That is a huge advantage for Pirates and we aim to point all this out to the cup committee on Wednesday."
But Mekuto said they had nothing to fear from the 'Buccaneers'. "Why should we fear them in the final? They have won nothing for the past five years. We have respect but we are not scared of them and know we can match then any day."
