Arsenal and Crystal Palace both entered the Premier League match last night needing to win for different reasons. Arsenal’s was to contend with the top four positions, struggling in their sixth position whereas Palace fights in the bottom half of the league.
Since Crystal Palace has appointed Sam Allardyce, Palace has shown determination and have reflected positive results. The statistics however proved negatively for Palace in the years preceding as the last and only time they have beaten Arsenal in the league was in 1979.
After only 17 minutes into the game, Andros Townsend placed Palace at the forefront, scoring the first goal for the game. This score led all the way into halftime.
As the second half of the game progressed, Crystal Palace bombarded the box with aerial attacks as the big-framed Benteke placed immense pressure on the Arsenal defence. This allowed Yohan Cabaye to score a beautifully rounded goal in the 63rd minute to extend Palace’s lead. Things went downhill quite rapidly for Arsenal as Palace was given a penalty in the 68th minute. This led to Crystal Palace scoring the third goal of the night by Luka Milivojevic with a 3-0 win for Palace.
Sam Allardyce seems to be saving his team from relegation, with a string of victories for Palace as well as being clear of the relegation zone. To Arsene Wenger’s dismay, his stellar players like Ozil and Walcott could not change the fate of Arsenal.
The Premier League has produced riveting football with the underdogs claiming victory. What other surprises does this League have in store for its viewers?
