The Champions League has produced a few disappointments, surprises and total ecstasy so far… but things are about to get even more exciting! Social media roared at the news of two Spanish teams fighting for a position in the final two. The Madrid showdown is a repeat of the 2014 and 2016 finals in the European competition says AFP.
BBC Sport mentions that “Zinedine Zidane's side could become the first club to retain the trophy in the Champions League era in the final on 3 June in Cardiff.” This is not impossible after the great performance and skill shown by the players throughout the League, not forgetting their 6-3 aggregate over Bayern Munich. Zidane also contributes immensely to this victory, proving his worth as manager.
But Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus seems to have an opposing view. According to AFP, he says that “Atletico, who would dearly love revenge over Real in the final in Cardiff, might have an edge over the other three teams because they are out of the La Liga title race so can rest players for Europe.”
Buffon added "The only distinction from the three teams is that Atletico Madrid have a more marked and defined position in the (league) standings".
"The other two (Real and Monaco) are fighting for the championship (as are Juventus) so that could be a factor."
The first leg will take place in on the 2nd of May between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. The match between Monaco and Juventus will be on the 3rd of May. So be ready for two action-packed matches! Although these teams are powerful and show great talent, it is going to be quite thrilling to see if Real Madrid can hold their Championship title for another year.
