After being accused of evading millions of euros, 14.7 million to be specific, it is speculated that this has been the driving force behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to move away from Real Madrid.
According to Goal.com, Ronaldo was accused of evading tax payments by Madrid’s criminal prosecution system. This was after he allegedly committed four crimes by hiding income generated in Spain from the treasury.
La Liga president, Javier Tebas has however supported Ronaldo’s case and mentioned to La Sexta: “We live in a time when any news related to the Spanish treasury is to point out criminals. From what I have read, I am convinced that there is no crime.”
But it is Ronaldo’s decision to reportedly leave Madrid that is sending supporters into a frenzy. This is especially after he has had such a fruitful football season with Madrid.
Ramon Calderon, ex-president of Real Madrid, believes that although it may be an impossible task to get Ronaldo to change his mind, “it's unlikely there is much truth to the speculation” Goal.com cites.
He mentioned to BBC Radio 5 that “Maybe it is something [Ronaldo] said in a moment when he's really angry. We don't know yet. He's been happy here, he helped us to win three Champions Leagues over the past four years, so I hope he will stay.”
“He's a fighter and he's in good shape. He can play again for the best club and I think that club now is Real Madrid. I can't tell you what he's doing but I hope he will stay, I'm sure he'll stay,” he added.
Paris Saint-Germain has been amongst the clubs looking to sign Ronaldo, although there are not many who can afford to take on the monetary pressures of such a esteemed player. If need be, Real Madrid will exceed lengths to ensure that Ronaldo remains in the Spanish team.
