The first weekend of the 2017-18 Premier League season was full of action.
The opening match between Arsenal and Leicester City saw the Gunners claiming a gripping victory because of Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud’s late goals. This set the score to 4-3, in favour of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
Liverpool kicked off their match on Saturday against Watford in a 3-3 draw. Social media blasted as Reds’ supporters expressed their frustration by their performance.
Defending champions Chelsea went down 3-2 at home against underdogs Burnley. Chelsea’s captain Gary Cahill was dismissed with a red card. Cesc Fabregas was also dismissed, placing Chelsea on the back end as they tried to defend their title.
Huddersfield made an early statement, defeating Crystal Palace 3-0, while Wayne Rooney scored on his second Everton debut to secure a victory over Stoke City.
Later, on Saturday, Pep Guardiola's men of Manchester City secured two goals against newcomers Brighton.
There were two games on Sunday; Newcastle were defeated on their return to the top flight losing 2-0 at home to Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham while Manchester United dismantled West Ham at Old Trafford with a 4-0 win.
All eyes were on big-spenders Manchester United. Romelu Lukaku’s signing proved fruitful as he scored two goals on his debut for Man United. The Belgian striker was signed from Everton in a £75-million ($97.58-million) move last month.
Anthony Martial brought the score to 3-0, whereas Paul Pogba secured the fourth goal. This gave United a great start to the season.
