Midfielder Mlondi Dlamini lost his life following a car accident on Sunday. He is the second Maritzburg United player who has passed away on South African roads.
The first was midfielder Mondli Cele, who lost control of the car in which he was travelling. The car hit the side of the bridge and went into the river below. Cele was resuscitated at the scene of a crash on Park Drive, but later died in hospital.
Maritzburg United have been left shattered by the recent news of Dlamini. According to sport24, he was reportedly travelling through Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal when tragedy struck. The police informed his team of his passing.
As relayed to Independent Media, club chairperson Farook Kadodia said, "It is very sad and devastating news. We received the call from the police at 07:30 today. We will release the statement with all the details tomorrow morning (Monday)”.
